This week has been manic. But then I say that almost every week.
This week has been particularly manic then. The BBC Blast Advance Tour vehicle has been on tour (2 weeks ahead of original schedule) in Ilfracombe, then Bideford, then Newquay, then Brannel, then Falmouth, then Truro, then Barnstaple. Amy’s (our Projects Administrator) been the main lead on this but there’s been a lot of co-ordination going on. Parallel to this, our Creative Trainee for Blast joined us – Gemma – so we’ve been training her up. And the Truro work experience (or T-WEX as they are affectionately known) gang started on Tuesday so I’ve been training them too.
On top of that, I did some Board Development consultancy with Kidz R Us in St Ives; we’ve moved the MusicTruro plans forward for September and got some more events confirmed; we’re programming a week of children’s activities and entertainments on the Moor as part of Henri Lloyd Fal Week this year so we’ve been getting those booked in; we’ve reviewed Cscape’s performances at Glastonbury and looked at how we want to work together again in the future; and I was networking like mad at the mpad birthday party on Wednesday and the Women In Enterprise/Business Link event yesterday.
And I wonder why we’re all a bit tired.
You see, when you put it like that, we’ve done loads this week. But looking at our planning documents and our to do lists, there still seems so much more to do and it really should have been sorted a week ago…I realised this morning that actually, I have been putting things into my daily to do lists that are future actions rather than immediate ones and hence piling on the pressure and never getting through my list. It’s inevitable then that I am a bit ratty and a bit stressed on a permanent basis because I am trying to complete all the actions necessary in 5 minutes. We all know that we should take more time over our tasks and develop work life balance and all that but we still pile on more stuff to do.
Following on from my last couple of posts and looking at the list of things we have achieved this week and the fact that it’s my birthday today, I am reminded of the need to breathe and relax as a means to get more done. In…..Out……In…..Out……
